Ask yourself these questions before starting this time-consuming yet rewarding experience:

  1. Do I have the dedication to perform this?

  2. Is there enough time everyday to meditate and practice? Or you don't have to meditate everyday, possible 3-5 days a week.

  3. Do I have friends/online pals who are shifters like me? (Well, this isn't mandatory, but dozens of shifters out there are in a mer-shifting pod/site)

  4. Am I healthy enough? Or am I commiting to regulate my health?

  5. Am I sure I'm not doing this just because I want to flip some fins in a bathtub?

If you are confident with these answers, congrats! Also, once you start your shifting, just to let you know I am NOT responsible for anything that happens to you. I am only here to create a website for other mer-shifters. Have fun and be safe!

TYPES OF MERS

Tropical - These are the common types of mermaids because they inhabit the warmer, coastal waters such as California,Tahiti, and Fiji. Skin tones vary and so do tail colors in a variety of warm shades from red to pink to yellow. This type of mermaid is like a decorative being, but as a swimming creature you need a strong tail despite what others say. Fins and fingernails are optional.

Deep Sea (Open Ocean / Traveler) - These mermaids have good stamina and know where they are going (either alone or in a pod) in the vast ocean. They have strong tails just like any other mermaid but I think it's less decorative because as you're shifting you're focusing on health than colors. Characteristics also include long fingernails for hunting (if your position is a hunter in a pod). Also, if you are choosing this type, just be aware that you need to eat very nutritional foods, like shellfish and ocean greens. Again, same goes for all mermaid types, but since you're swimming constantly you need to eat often, and not just tropical/coastal foods.

Freshwater - These mermaids are enclosed in land-locked bodies of water. Just be careful frolicking/living in these conditions because there's a higher chance of parasites and other harmful organisms in the water (I might be wrong, but you can research this depending on where you live). Freshwater mermaids' tails are cool-colored, ranging from kelp-green to gray-blue to dusty purple (like the colors I gave :P ). You also have access to very delicious fish commonly eaten on land, too! Catfish galore (not the only one!) !

Kelp Forest - Now I don't know much about this type of species, but basically you're living in an enclosed body of water and there're a lot of kelp! It's freshwater, so like lakes and rivers, you are going to be facing parasitic threats. Your tail color will camoflauge with the forest, such as hues of green and other murky colors with stripes. Stripes are optional~

Artic - These mermaids live near frigid waters of the coastline or in the ocean. Now someone has the balls to live in this area, but basically you need to have a good amount of fat and muscle in your body in order to survive the waters of some European countries, for example. Mermaid tails are obviously insulated and vary in calm shades ranging from brown to red to white. Also, if you are planning to become this type, look up the temperatures of the waters you are migrating to. It's just so you don't freeze to death (Trust me, artic mermaids are nothing compared to the fish in the South Pole, or is it North?). Just like the Deep Sea mermaid, you need to be swift about your diet due to the lack of appropriate heat in your area.

** These are the main types of mers that are sensible for the human body (there are doubts about the Artic, though). But anything's possible and no two people are alike!

** There are also information about people with octopus and shark torsos, for example. I have to tell you that you cannot shift these forms!
